eco church
At St George’s, we believe that God calls us to care for the earth and all who live in it. As a church community, we are committed to living sustainably—both together and in our personal lives.
We began this journey by engaging with the Eco Church survey, which helps churches reflect on their environmental impact. In 2020, we were proud to receive the Bronze Eco Church Award. Since then, we’ve continued to grow in our commitment to environmental stewardship and, after several years of dedicated effort, we are delighted to have achieved the Silver Award.
To support this work, we formed a working group that meets regularly to guide our progress and explore new ways to care for creation. Everyone is welcome to join and contribute.
We are grateful to the Eco Church organisation for providing a thoughtful framework that helps us reflect and improve in five key areas:
Worship and teaching
Management of church buildings and land
Community engagement
Global campaigns
Personal lifestyles of our congregation
Through completing the Eco Church audit, we’ve identified practical steps to better express our care for God’s world in every part of our life together.

How Can I Make a Difference?
Making a difference doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Small, everyday choices can have a big impact. Here are some ideas and resources to help you get started:
Recycle household waste and food: Order containers here.
Recycle soft plastics: Available at your local Co-op or M&S. More info here.
Repair instead of replace: Attend a Restart Party or contact the Fixing Factory Camden. Details here.
Borrow instead of buy: Explore the Library of Things here.
Shop with less packaging: Visit local markets, Kilo on Holloway Road, or the Fair Well food van.
Reduce food waste: Try apps like Olio (free local food and items) or Too Good To Go (discounted meals from local restaurants).
Stay informed: Follow the Faith for Climate Network for news and events.
