Roof Project

Our roof project is well on the way to completion with work due to finish on the 20th January 2026. The main roof is complete and the temporary roof above was removed on 15th December. The rooflights have all been restored so natural light can come in (though there isn’t much of that at this time of year!) and the fascia and soffits (around and on the underside of the roof overhang) have been beautifully finished in zinc and metal. There is more work to do on the lower roofs.

We are focussing our efforts now on the project to fit Solar PV on the roof. See below for more information.

Donations towards the shortfall on the main project and towards the solar PV project can be made on our fundraising page: https://www.stewardship.org.uk/pages/stgeorgesroof

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed so far, including the Richard Cloudesley Charity, Benefact Trust, and Garfield Weston Charity, as well as members of the church and wider community. Their generous support made this essential work possible.

The zinc fascia (and those made it happen!)

  • The building work has been delayed by three and a half weeks and will now run from 7th August to 20th January 2026 with a break in the work over Christmas.

    During this time:

    • The entire church site will be fenced off, with a passageway through the scaffolding to access the main glass entrance.

    • No car parking or drop-off will be available on site.

    • Church services and children’s party hire will continue throughout.

    • Once internal work is complete, weekday activities and hire groups will continue as normal, although natural light in the main space will be limited.

Please note: Residents near the church may experience some noise during construction. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Scaffolding will surround the building, including over the pavement on Carleton Road. Work will take place Monday to Friday during the day, and Saturday mornings until 1pm.

  • Solar Project

    • Preparation for solar PV formed part of the main roof project including use of fire retardant insulation, boarding of the roof surface (to spread the weight of the panels) and cabling

    • We have been awarded funding by Cloudesley Charity and Islington Community Energy Fund and have applied to London Community Energy Fund.

    • The funding shortfall is currently £15,000.

    • We plan to install a 10.56kW array along with a battery.

    • The system is calculated to generate more that 9,000 kWh per year with 58% used on site (the system design is not finalised so these figures may change).

Please Pray With Us

  • Give thanks that the funding has been secured and the project can occur.

  • Pray for the contractors, professionals, and St George’s team—for safety, wisdom, and steady progress.

  • Pray that our church services remain welcoming and that our community continues to feel supported and connected.
