Support the Wellbeing Café in Memory of Andrew Cooper

Andrew Cooper was a cherished member of the St. George’s community. His kindness, wisdom, and generosity touched countless lives. Andrew believed deeply in creating spaces where people feel valued, supported, and connected. In his memory, we invite you to join us in sustaining a program that reflects those values: The Wellbeing Café.

About Andrew

Andrew Cooper (1986–2025) was an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Warwick, specialising in the history of modern philosophy. His scholarship explored the ideas of Immanuel Kant and Amalia Holst, and in recent years, he turned his attention to philosophical questions surrounding conservation and land management.

Beyond academia, Andrew was deeply committed to public philosophy and community wellbeing. He hosted the podcast Daybreak, appeared on BBC programs, and led projects that empowered young voices and improved local food security. In recognition of his outreach, he was named a BBC/AHRC “New Generation Thinker” in 2023.

One of Andrew’s most memorable contributions to community life was organising “Ready, Steady, Eat!” as part of the Being Human Festival, a joyful event that brought people together to explore food, culture, and wellbeing. This initiative reflected Andrew’s belief that philosophy is not just an academic pursuit but a way of living well together.

Andrew passed away unexpectedly while hiking near Federation Peak in Tasmania at the end of November. His life and work exemplified intellectual rigour, generosity, and a profound commitment to making the world a better place.

About the Wellbeing Café

The Wellbeing Café at St. George’s is a welcoming space for anyone seeking companionship, mental health support, and a sense of belonging. It offers:

  • A safe, inclusive environment for conversation and connection

  • Resources and activities that promote emotional and spiritual well-being

  • Volunteer-led support for those navigating life’s challenges

  • A weekly meal that rescues vast quantities of food that would otherwise end up in landfills

Each session, we build community over a shared, delicious lunch made with surplus food sourced from local shops, reinforcing our church's commitment to sustainability. This program is entirely funded by small grants and donations. Your gift will help us keep the Wellbeing Café open to all and continue Andrew’s spirit of care and kindness. Please consider making a donation today in Andrew’s memory.
