Ash Wednesday 2026

Ash Wednesday at St George’s Tufnell Park

Wednesday 18 Feb, 6.30–7.30pm

As the season of Lent begins, we invite you to join us for a reflective and hope‑filled Ash Wednesday service, held this Wednesday from 6.30 to 7.30pm.

Ash Wednesday marks the start of a forty‑day journey: a time to pause, reflect, and gently realign our hearts with God. It is a day when Christians across the world gather to acknowledge our human frailty, to turn again toward grace, and to open ourselves to renewal.

What to Expect

  • Beautiful music
Our time together weaves in hymns and quiet chants that help create a space of stillness as we step into Lent.

  • Readings and reflection
We will hear from Isaiah 58, a stirring call to justice, mercy, and genuine repentance, and from John 8, the story of Jesus meeting us not with condemnation but with compassion and the chance to begin again.

  • Imposition of Ashes
All are welcome to receive ashes as a sign of our humanity and God’s boundless grace.

  • Holy Communion
We share bread and wine, remembering that God sustains us as we continue our Lenten journey.

  • Tea, coffee, and quiet conversation
After the service, you are warmly invited to stay for refreshments or to receive prayer.

We would love to begin this season with you.
